The United States has fallen 27 places in the Press Freedom Index. The reason? The many arrests of journalists covering Occupy protests.
El Salvador, which is tragically plagued with horrific violence, and Japan, guilty of censoring the press over Fukushima, placed well above the United States. Incredible.

I can’t even. Professor Bloom, I have never been happier to have opted out of your journalism classes while in college. This largely offensive and disasteful article is filled with little more than tired cliches, gross generalizations and feeble imagery. I hope Bloom takes the time to read the comments section, because (most, though not all) people make some excellent, and painfully obvious, points on things he happened to have “missed” while living in Iowa City.
I’m legitamitely raging right now.
FROM SITE: “Despite a powerful eyewitness statement about the sexual assault of a child, this incident was not reported to any law enforcement or child protective agency, as required by Pennsylvania law,” said Kelly, the attorney general. “Additionally, there is no indication that anyone from the university ever attempted to learn the identity of the child.”
How? How could all these people of power, people of education, people of authority simply look the other way? And how could Graham Spanier maintain a level of arrogance to release that statement on this day?
I’m absolutely disgusted. I hope everyone involved is held accountable, fired, jailed, burned alive, etc. There is no excuse for what happened.
Tonya is accusing Kenny and Evan of raping her with a toothbrush. I have so many confused, angry, sad feelings right now.

On January 12, 2010, one day after his 18th birthday, CAPA High School honors student Jordan Trent Miles was ambushed by three plain clothes Pittsburgh police officers, who failed to identify themselves and approached him aggressively. The officers did not say “Stop! Police!”, they jumped out of an unmarked vehicle, one of them yelling “Where’s your money? Where’s the drugs? Where’s the gun?” Miles, never before in trouble with the police and thinking he was being robbed, began to run, and slipped on the icy sidewalk. The officers overtook Miles and administered a brutal beating that left him unrecognizable, ripping dreadlocks out of his head, and continuing to beat him as he lay on the ground after their initial assault, stammering the Lord’s Prayer. There can be no explaining away or excusing what was done to Miles.
The police officers lied about what happened, claiming there was a bulge in his pocket they assumed was a gun but “turned out to be a Mountain Dew bottle”. No bottle was ever entered into evidence, and Jordan and his friends will tell you he doesn’t even drink the soda. The officers also attempted to claim a neighbor reported him as a prowler and attempted to bring assault charges against Miles, which were tossed out of court when the neighbor said she did no such thing. Despite all this, the City of Pittsburgh went on to reward these violent officers with a commendation and, during their suspension, paid them more than they earned while working. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh DA has not brought charges and the Justice Department announced on May 4th, 2011 that it would not prosecute the three officers. The mayor and police chief announced on May 5th that the three officers would be returning to work.
“I feel that my son was racially profiled,” Terez Miles said. “It’s a rough neighborhood; it was after dark. … They assumed he was up to no good because he’s black. My son, he knows nothing about the streets at all. He’s had a very sheltered life, he’s very quiet, he doesn’t know police officers sit in cars and stalk people like that.”
America is the land of OPPORTUNITY - not GUARANTEES! If you want something you have to go out and get it! Stop whining!
I don’t know whether to laugh or be pissed off about how uninformed “the 53%” are about their own social status. You know what makes up that 99%? The 53% who are also getting dicked over but are too stupid to realize it. Unfortunately the republican party/conservatives are using this to their advantage to divide people.

Twitter stopped #troydavis as a trending topic, but kept #youknowyoughetto. Just like America’s justice system, twitter’s racism is showing.
I’m sure you know that this year at the VMA’s, in front of 12 million viewers, MTV once again showed their support for the abusive Chris Brown. This time they dressed him in all white and suspended him above the crowd with wires. Meanwhile, they gave Tyler, the Creator the Best New Artists award. That same night he tweeted: “VICTORIA JUSTICE IS GOING TO TAKE THIS DICK. or get socked in her fucking mouth.” He since deleted the tweet. This is the same guy who used the word “faggot” over 213 times in his first album.
MTV has a responsibility to their viewers to support artists who support women, not artists who think it’s okay to beat them — or talk about beating them. They should not use their influence to help misogynistic or homophobic artists pass on their message. Please REBLOG and RETWEET: http://twitter.com/#!/stephbyswillis/status/108418949540089856
