Definitely going to the first weekend, as it will hopefully be at least a few degrees cooler.
My ridiculous, not-quite-done-yet makeup for the Ke$ha/LMFAO show on Liz’s birthday. I wish I would have taken a photo of the finished product— think glitter eyeliner and ridiculous amounts of mascara and lipgloss— but I forgot.
Anyway, it was one of the most fun concerts I have ever been to, which I definitely did not expect. The pregaming at Saddle Ranch along with a couple of pills may have helped, but regardless, if you get a chance to go, go.
Childish Gambino tickets purchased! I guess I’m heading to San Diego more than once this summer!
I was so happy about seeing Vampire Weekend that before I left I took three photos of myself with the tickets.*
*That’s a lie. I actually took four, but in one of them I looked like I had a lazy eye, so into the trash it went.
Garineh and I went to the Vampire Weekend/Beach House show last night at the Hollywood Bowl. It was fucking fantastic. I’m usually not a fan of huge arenas and opt for small venues, but the Bowl has the most chill vibe ever. And the fact you can bring in outside drinks and food makes it that much better. The multiple bottles of wine + cheez-its + grapes combination made for a good time.
We Barbarians are playing with Rumspringa, and I am excited. Plus, it’s at Spaceland, which I not only love, but it’s on a Monday, so it’s also free.
I will be watching ALL 4 ONE perform a free concert tonight at the Americana. I’m pretty excited considering “I Swear” was my (and everyone else’s) jam back in the day. And by back in the day, I mean when I was 10, WHICH WAS ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO. I am so old, guys.
I’ve been MIA lately, because, well, I’ve been busing watching MIA and a bunch of other performers at Street Scene in San Diego. We were front row for almost every show (Girl Talk, Deadweather, MIA, Of Montreal, Holy Fuck, Conor Oberst with surprise guest JENNY LEWIS) and only towards the middle for just a few (Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, Cake). We also stopped by a couple of other bands, but focused more on trying to watch full sets this year. I wish I could relive the weekend over again or at least certain performances. Oh, and we had happy hour at this great little Mexican place called La Puerta, and I fell in love. Their drinks were delicious, strong and incredibly cheap (maybe I’m just used to LA prices now, but whatever) and their food the same. I want to take another weekend trip to San Diego, because I’ve only ever gone there for Street Scene, just to soak the town in. The Gaslamp District reminds me so much of the pedmall in Iowa City, which I miss. Must go back soon!
Matchbox 20 performing “If You’re Gone” on VH1’s Storytellers.
I think you’re so mean, I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life
I think I’m just scared that I know too much
I can’t relate, and that’s a problem I’m feeling
I saw Matchbox 20 in concert at the Mark of the Quad Cities with my friend Lea Ann when we were in the tenth grade. Not only did they have solid openers (EVERCLEAR!! and Lifehouse), but they sounded beautiful, and Rob Thomas had the most wonderful and humble stage presence out of anyone I’ve ever seen live. He is truly amazing.
